70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A056) is a large-diameter telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount designed specifically for mirrorless cameras. Its greatest feature is that it is a high-performance lens with an aperture of F/2.8, but it is also the world’s smallest and lightest body with a filter diameter of 67 mm, maximum diameter of 81 mm, length of 149 mm (at 70 mm), and weight of 810 g. Through the luxurious use of special glass materials, high rendering performance has been achieved. In addition, the short minimum focusing distance of 0.85m expands the range of expression. The AF drive uses a newly developed linear motor focus mechanism “VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive)” that is quiet and agile. This enables Tamron’s highest level of high-speed, high-precision AF in history. By adopting a floating system that moves two VXDs simultaneously under electronic control, it delivers clear and beautiful depiction performance from close up to distant scenes. Furthermore, it is equipped with a simple drip-proof structure and anti-fouling coating for outdoor shooting, and is also compatible with various functions such as “Fast Hybrid AF” installed in Sony cameras. With the release of this lens, Tamron’s lineup of three large-diameter zoom lenses that are compatible with full-frame mirrorless lenses has finally been completed.
